Final Assignment

                                                           Final Assignment

Starting college is a new experience to me and it was interesting and somewhat fun. My expectations as a student is to do well in school. I had trouble adjusting at first but then later I started to get used to it. In all of your classes time management is very important. I've learned how to manage my time and what classes needed more time spent. Taking a freshmen seminar really helped because you got to meet other freshmen as well. I had fun learning all about social media and it taught me new things that I didn't know about. My expectations for this class was to do well and I did manage to do so. All you have to do to really get a good grade is to do your work and show up to class.

What I really enjoyed doing is making group projects. Not only is it a good way to learn but also a way to meet new people. The features that I liked about this class is the amount of passion students had to make their work great. I wouldn't want anything changed because all of the things that I learned really helped me and it was a fun experience. I am happy that I took this class I know it was the first time that they made freshmen's take it. I really recommend UHD to make it a requirement to take it.

Social Media Consultation: Starbucks in Action

Starbucks was founded in the early 70's, so before their main clientele was adults, but now since younger people (teenagers) are drinking more coffee they have found new ways to get their products out to them. They use social media sites like twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to advertise their vast production of services. On twitter they have about 6.86 million followers. They frequently post new products and limited time deals on certain things. They start trends that relate to their products, for example now that winter is here they begin to sell their favorite winter product. The limited time pumpkin spice late. They post tons of things saying "ITS BACK, get it while its hot". It doesn't take long before people begin to upload post and pictures with the #pumpkin spice. Same thing happens on Instagram where they upload celebrities and or athletes enjoying their products. On Facebook tons of people click "like" on coffee then tons of things on Starbucks begin to come up, advertising their extensive supply on coffee. They use YouTube to showcase new products through funny and relatable situations that coffee drinkers come across and or overcome by drinking their coffee. These situations are retable to younger people since now in 2014 is their biggest clientele. They also post a lot of random things that isn't really relevant to their product but relevant/important to their customers. For example they would post things about supporting the army and or supporting the fight against cancer. They do this to attract their customers to their company as a whole. Starbucks shows their support in a lot of other things that the people seem to stand behind. This makes them more likable as a company, this in turn makes people want to buy more of their coffee. They will continue to do this because it works and it has a lot of people’s attention. Since people are visiting these sites on a daily bases it’s near impossible to ignore Starbucks. Now that every time you are craving coffee you will be driving to the nearest Starbucks thirsty for caffeine.

Blog Assignment 7: Privacy Scavenger Hunt

                                                                       Assignment 7

Critics chafe as Macs send sensitive docs to iCloud without warning:
Mac OS X Yosemite has caused some problems such as uploading documents opened in text edit and keynote to icloud without it being saved. Jeffrey Paul said he was alarmed to recently discover a cache of in-progress files he intended to serve as "temporary Post-It notes" that had been silently uploaded to his iCloud account even though he never intended or wished them to be. Although a lot of people like the feature of icloud to let you pick up where you left off from any mac its very convenient but it also has some potential problems.

Which Messaging Technologies Are Truly Safe and Secure?
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) have put to the test the most secure messaging technologies and they give us a scorecard to the ones that are more secure. The scorecard includes more than three dozen tools, including chat clients, text messaging apps, email applications, and technologies for voice and video calls. Apple's iMessage and FaceTime products stood out as the best and its important to know which one is more secure.

Cop charged with stealing nude pics from women’s phones:
California Highway Patrol officer Sean Harrington who is accused of seizing and distributing racy photos copied from arrestees’ phones. The fact that a cop would do something like that surprises me and they use their authority for personal pleasure. This is something illegal and its invading someone's privacy and they shouldn't have permission to look at someone's phone without a warrant.

                            Blog Assignment 6: Privacy

Facebook: Has a good privacy setting they are very concern to the users privacy they have their privacy setting organized and it helps you find what you are interested on finding more things about. When you look for a specific topic they give you a brief summary and they give you more information about it and how they have it set up and if you want to change it. Facebook is probably the safest website that provides you with the best privacy setting and they care about the user and protecting them.

BlackBoard: Blackboard is a well developed website that helps the user with its privacy and its important for them to have a good privacy setting because teachers and students and sometimes businesses. They have their privacy setting in order. The provide you with different notifications and different features this is my second choice on the safest website with the safest privacy setting.

Twitter: Has good settings on their privacy options but its not really reliable what I see in twitter is sometimes nudity and some other social medias delete it when they see that but twitter is different they allow it. They do provide you the option of protecting your tweets that pretty much it twitter doesn't have a variety of options.

Youtube: They provide you with little privacy settings to mostly your videos they basically give you options to your video and not to you personally. The give you the option of deleting comments and also disabling them from the videos.

We have decided to change our project a little to focus more on a specific topic. Which is how has Social Media affected the music industry, and what ways have the music industry adapted to these social media outlets.

Group members and Roles:

Leader: Dominique Carter

Organizer: Sergio Sapon

Peacekeeper/Check up : Carolina Nuño

Editor/Reviser: Dalton Cramer

Dominique Carter:

Will be researching on the copyright laws passed over the years due to the come up of all the social media sites and apps. Trying to see if their any laws passed directly to use of music, and looking into how people reacted to the new laws being passed.

Dalton Cramer:

Will be looking into the statistics of the sales of the music due to the use of Social media sites/apps. How dramatically has it changed over the years and how much it will change. Also on how it has affected the distribution of the music being sold.

Sergio Sapon and Carolina Nuño:

Will be working together on researching on social media like Twitter, Vine, Facebook etc and how it helps and sometimes hurt the artists and their music. Finding out which one is being used the most by record labels/artist and how. Also talking about how these sites/apps have taken place of the conventional ways of advertisement of music.

The resources we will be using will primarily be Wikipedia, the UHD Catalogs, and this websitehttp://www.theguardian.com/business/musicindustry. The site post allot of current events in the music industry and how certain apps are affecting certain artist and the music. It will also help us link to other sites concerning the industry and how Social media is in affect. We are also planning on going on the websites of certain record labels to see how they are using the social media to help promote their artist. We will even  be going onto the apps and sites ourselves directly to see if we see anything relating to our project. Since we use these sites daily we are sure we will constantly find new things that we can use as current events.
